HPAE Rowan Contract Negotiations Update, September 15 2016
Our last contract negotiations with Rowan were on August 30, 2016. Your committee negotiated for 14 hours straight in an attempt to finalize all of the outstanding proposals. We addressed a broad range of issues with management including job security, health insurance, and union rights. Aside from wages, we are still apart on issues related to state of emergency/inclement weather and discipline.
We continue to move closer to what we believe will be an acceptable settlement on wages for our membership. We’ve put forward a new proposal with a combination of step movements and across-the-board increases. We expect a response at our next session.
It has been a difficult challenge to integrate the terms of our former UMDNJ contract with the many different practices and policies of Rowan University and the State of New Jersey. We still have work to do, but we believe we are close to reaching an agreement. Another session will be scheduled later this month.
When we reach a tentative agreement, members will have an opportunity to vote to ratify the contract. If you are not a member, or if you are unsure of your membership status, please contact a local union representative on the campus for information on how to join.
In Solidarity,
Deborah Cruz
