HPAE Submits List of Healthcare Priority Action Items to Governor-elect Murphy
As Governor-Elect Phil Murphy and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Oliver have started the transition into a new Administration, HPAE is putting forward a set of recommendations for policy initiatives and departmental changes for consideration. Through the last eight years of the Christie administration HPAE has witnessed the erosion of the government’s role to protect healthcare workers and patients, while ensuring transparency and accountability within within the healthcare industry. Those changes have had a negative impact on the day to day work of HPAE members in the healthcare and behavioral health sector.
HPAE’s recommendations include specific actions to:
- Provide safe staffing in acute care hospitals and addiction treatment centers
- Improve health and safety for healthcare workers and patients
- Guarantee a living wage for all healthcare workers
- Expand access to affordable healthcare services
- Limit the impact of medical debt
- Strengthen transparency and oversight of healthcare institutions
