Local 5094 Bargaining Update for Rutgers University, October 10, 2018
- Management gave us an insulting counter-proposal on wages of 0.5%/year that the committee scoffed at.
- We made some progress on seniority by getting management to drop their proposal to do layoffs by “other criteria such as work performance.” They are still insisting on eliminating bumping rights altogether which is an unacceptable elimination of our rights and job security.
- We were joined by several members from the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus. One representative from UBHC spoke to management unilaterally changing members’ ability to provide services and earn additional compensation outside of their normal work assignment. Management promised to make a proposal at the next session addressing the issue.
- We presented a proposal to incorporate previously excluded employees who are now eligible for union membership under the Workplace Democracy Enhancement Act.
- We presented a modified proposal on parking focusing in on drastically reducing the rates.
