Local 5094 Bargaining Update for Rutgers University, November 14, 2018
11/14/18 Bargaining Update for Rutgers University:
- 35 members attended our bargaining session in a strong show of force. Member after member spoke passionately about being overworked, overstressed, and underpaid. Management minimized their concerns and suggested that members should have chosen a more lucrative profession. If members wanted to make more money, management’s lead negotiator suggested that they too should have gone to law school.
- Management’s latest wage increase proposal was:
Year 1: 1.25% across-the-board increase, retroactive to July 1st.
Year 2: 1 step movement
Year 3: 1% across-the-board increase
Year 4: 1 step movement - Management still owes us responses to our information request on Family Medical Leave Act data, which was submitted in early May, and yet are still asking us to make major concessions on leave time. Management also had no written response to our outstanding proposals, including on Mandatory Leave Days (equalizing us with Rutgers Legacy holiday campus closures), lactation spaces, parking, or Barnabas partnership protections.
The next session is Friday November 30th 9am-1pm in the ASB II, 57 US-1, New Brunswick and we need to keep up the pressure! E-mail akulenovic@hpae.org to RSVP
