HPAE Local 5089 RNs: Negotiations have begun
On Wednesday, November 28th the HPAE negotiating committee met with management to officially begin bargaining a new agreement as our contract expired on September 30, 2018. HPAE presented our initial proposals to management as well as had some discussions on the following issues:
- Staffing levels for the Med/Surg units have not been updated in over 10 years therefore we have proposed language that will improve the target levels from 1:6 to 1:5.
- Walkthrough inspections throughout the facility at the union’s request that will allow health and safety issues to be identified and addressed in a timely manner.
- Mutual respect and non-hostile work environments as there have been a clear increase in our members filing complaints of bullying and intimidation in their units.
Management was not prepared to respond or present proposals. To date, there are no dates scheduled for our next session and anticipate that we will not meet again until after the holidays. If you would like more information about negotiations or are interested in helping out in our fight to bargain a fair contract, please feel free to contact your local union representative.
