HPAE Local 5089 RNs: important updates, March 11, 2020
HPAE recently settled a class action grievance for the night shift members on G-Yellow as they were unable to combine their breaks with their lunch which had been the practice prior to the implementation of the new timekeeping system. More specifically, night shift members complained of having to interrupt their lunch merely because the new timekeeping system required one to clock in and out for their 30 minute unpaid lunch only to return to complete the remainder of their break. As a result of the grievance, the Hospital was able to determine that there was a system error and promptly rectified the issue. Recently, we were advised that this issue affects many night shift members throughout the Hospital and are in the process of addressing the matter with management.
Retro Pay
HPAE has been advised that the retro pay for our members on Scale B will go into effect with the March 20 paycheck. As per the contract, eligible members will move one step based on their accrued years of service for October 2018 and another step for October 2019. In addition, those members at the top of the wage scale or step 26 will receive a lump sum payment in lieu of the actual step movement.
