Local 5138 Bargaining Update, April 27, 2020

Today was the second day of virtual negotiations. Topics we presented concerned health and safety included use of KN95 at JSMC, reusing and cleaning face masks and blue gowns, reusing sterilized stylets, and trialing a different kind of N95 in the OR, and aware that these have not been fit-tested.

Ellen Angelo, JS CNO, responded and stated that although there is a back order, they have enough inventory at this time and staff can get supplies like N95, purple wipes, and gowns from the command center when needed. These issues have not been reported to be happening at SOMC at this time.

Other proposals that have been presented today are requirements in regards to smart square sign up, job openings open to team members for the first 7 days, increasing union days for the grievances, designate parking spaces for on-call staff near the hospital and post security at the Beach Plum cafeteria entrance.

Negotiation dates so far are April 27, 28, May 8, 14, 18, 20, 21, 27, 28, and 29.

Additional dates have been proposed since our contract ends May 31, 2020.
