Local 5107 UMC Union Update, October 2024

Friday, your union representatives from each facility met with Management for our quarterly Labor-Management Committee Meeting. Here is a brief summary of what we discussed.

    1. Staffing: We have settled our first staffing grievance. Management has agreed to address staffing issues in Labor-Management Committee Meetings and put limits on RNs filling CNA shifts (you can volunteer, at your pay rate, as always, but only be required to after all other options have been exhausted). This is a small first step forward in our fight for better staffing! If you have a staffing issue you want addressed, please let your rep know. Friday, we discussed the timing of admissions, and the results of a time study management agreed to run in the sub-acute unit in Collingswood. A solution we found was a ’pre-admission huddle’ Management agreed to introduce the idea at each facility to see if it makes admissions any easier/timely.
We also discussed the appropriate number of nurses for each sub-acute unit.
    2. Safety: In response to our Safety grievance, each facility is writing a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, which we’ll review.
    3. HPAE is excited to now cover all members with our occupational liability insurance plan as a benefit – effective July 1, 2024.https://www.hpae.org/resources/aft-nurses-health-professionals-occupational-liability-plan/
    4. Insurance: There will be no increase in insurance costs this year. Management will also be proposing a wellness incentive program – More details to come.
    5. Vaccinations:
Bristol Glen: There will be Flu Vaccine Clinics October 3 and 15.
Collingswood: Flu Vaccine Clinic 10/1, TBD
Pitman: Flu Vaccine Clinic 10/6. COVID Clinic 11/6

In solidarity,
