Local 5185 Update: Fighting For Our Rights

As you know, much has been happening at BMC. Hudson Regional Hospital recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony prior to Thanksgiving complete with new architectural designs for the front lobby as well as a press conference.

This uncertainty is weighing on us all. As we get more information, we will share it immediately. PLEASE make sure your contact information is up to date and read everything in each update.

Our Union is only as strong as we are. We will have to show our strength and fight back many times as we go through this transition.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

If you have not already, please add your name to our petition to Governor Murphy. https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/take-action-to-protect-hudson-county-hospitals/

HPAE Holiday Celebration:

December 16, we’ll be hosting a Holiday event in the Cafeteria from 2:00 – 4:00. Come by for Hot Chocolate and Snacks!

Contract Action Training:

December 13, we’ll be hosting a training on what Union Members like you can do to make sure we win a great contract and enforce it. Sessions will be held in the 2b Classroom at 8:00 AM, 4:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. RSVP to mragsdale@HPAE.org

401(k)s:

This is money CarePoint owes us, meaning the Bankruptcy Court must first give its permission to pay it. The Court is expected to address this in the hearing on December 10. If it is approved by The Court, we may still have to fight to get it. We already have an Arbitration Case pending if that happens.

Bonuses: CarePoint is claiming that the Sick Bonuses and the Bonuses we negotiated over the summer need to be approved by the Court. This is untrue. CarePoint has already been approved to make payroll. Our Attorney has addressed this with Management. CarePoint claims they plan to pay this money if approved by The Court, but we must all be prepared to fight.

Hudson Regional Information:

The State of NJ is moving closer to approving the sale of BMC to HRH, but it is not official yet. The next step will be a Department of Health meeting on the 12th.

A lot of the transition between CarePoint and HRH (whether or not we’ll have to reapply, seniority, etc.) will depend on whether HRH honors our Contract (which would keep the status quo) or forces us to fight for our rights.

HRH cannot make any change without negotiations with our union. We all must be prepared to fight hard to protect our hospital and our jobs.

PTO/TOB Bonuses: If you Qualify, fill out the Form and return it to Human Resources ASAP.

Vaccinations: The deadline for flu vaccines is 12/6. Please visit Employee Health to get your shot or submit documentation.
