We Care. We Fight. We Show Up!

On February 10th and 11th, local union leaders from HPAE and AFT convened in Newark for the AFT Northeast Regional State Federation and Local Presidents Conference. Joined by our sister unions from Maine to Maryland, the conference focused on union building through member engagement. As our unions face some of the fiercest and most virulent anti-worker attacks, local leaders shared information and resources to help mobilize and engage members in the fight to preserve the fundamental right to have a voice in the workplace.

On day two, HPAE Local 5118 member, Joan Davis, a registered nurse from Cooper University Hospital, recounted her recent experience as part of a volunteer delegation of union healthcare workers in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. Under the banner, “We care. We fight. We Show up!”, Joan joined a panel of other union members to discuss real examples of how unions can help strengthen the communities where we live and work.
