Picket for Staffing: Local 5030 Bargaining Update, September 17 - Health Professionals & Allied Employees

Picket for Staffing: Local 5030 Bargaining Update, September 17

Extended Sick Leave (ESL)

  • WHAT WE’RE FIGHTING FOR
    • Maintain current accrual rates for benefit time and give immediate access to sick leave.
  • WHAT MANAGEMENT SAYS
    • Wants lower accrual rates for sick time.
Restrict access to our time, forcing us to use PTO before sick leave

Wage Adjustments

  • WHAT WE’RE FIGHTING FOR
    • Acknowledge and adhere to the step scale that’s already in our contract to match our experience.
    • Adjust rates for titles that are not at the tri-state area standard
  • WHAT MANAGEMENT SAYS
    • Has refused our reasonable solutions, even after compensating their two CEOs with a combined $7.4 million in 2016.

Staffing

  • WHAT WE’RE FIGHTING FOR
    • Establish safe staffing levels for all staff.
  • WHAT MANAGEMENT SAYS
    • Says that there is no staffing problem at any HMH facility.
    • They refused to return to the bargaining table to acknowledge chronic understaffing at our hospital

Our committee marched down the hall to demand that they return to the table to discuss how their staffing decisions put patient health and staff safety at risk.

Join the Picket!: Tell HMH to put patients before profit. Stand strong with our union sisters and brothers on the picket line on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 2-5pm outside the hospital.

When HMH would not engage in a staffing discussion, our committee issued a 10-day notice for informational picketing for 9/27.

Congratulations to our sisters and brothers from Local 5097 (Harborage) on their tentative agreement for a new contract!

Ratification meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, Sep. 18th.

HPAE & Hackensack Meridian are in a labor dispute.
