HPAE Local 5089 RNs Contract Update, October 22
Our HPAE Local 5089 Negotiating Committee held a bargaining session with Rutgers University on October 22, 2018.
Below are the updates from the session:
- Despite presenting our wage proposal to Rutgers 3 sessions ago, Rutgers yet to provide a response to our wages. We continued to push the University for a response at the table today.
- We have provided a Clinical Ladder to the University to enhance our professional development and to remain competitive with other markets
- We learned that Rutgers Legacy will be given a 5th day off during the last week of the year for this year, creating inequity. We have presented a proposal that will align our holidays with this change.
- Rutgers previously proposed to delete the Certification Fund from the contract. We are pushing back on this and seek to expand the Certification Fund to include additional certifications.
- We are looking to include CINJ and RWJMS (Anesthesia) in the alternate pay week exemption for rotating 24 hour shifts as well as clarified pay checks for hourly staff to eliminate the issues surrounding differential and OT.
- Rutgers continues to seek concessions on FMLA and we have provided a counter that would maintain your current status for time off and expand your sick leave accruals and provide legitimate bereavement time.
- We are maintaining our focus on job security in the wake of the Barnabas Health agreement and continue to push our Public/Private Partnerships proposal forward at the table.
We will continue to negotiate diligently with Rutgers until we have reached a successor agreement.
Next Negotiation Dates: November 9 and November 27
