Local 5142 update, November 9, 2018
Bargaining Update: After eight long years, we are finally close to having agreement on a contract. We have a meeting with representatives for the new employers on September 13th, and you will be hearing from us shortly after that to discuss next steps. Any agreement would be contingent on the sale going through, and would not take effect until the time of the sale.
Public Hearing on Hospital Sale: Patrice Sharkey did an excellent job representing your Union at a public hearing to get input on the sale of the hospital on November 8th at Salem High School (pictured above). Go to our website at: https://www.hpae.org/local/local-5142/ to read her testimony. While we have some concerns over some of the language in the application, we are excited to work with CHA get our hospital back to providing the quality care our patients deserve.
WARN Notices: You recently received notices from CHS saying that your employment will be terminated at the time of the sale. This is a regular part of a hospital sale, and CHA has committed to hiring every employee immediately after taking over the hospital. As a union, we will be making sure that we hold them accountable and make this is a smooth and fair process.
Looking Ahead: After the sale takes place and we have a contract, the real work begins. This will be a one year contract, which means we have one year to build our local and fight for an even better contract in 2019. Talk to one of your bargaining committee members to find out how you can get involved in building your Union.
