Worker Story: Dionisia Duarte-Johnson

My name is Dionisia Duarte-Johnson and I am a medical technologist in the Hope Tower Laboratory on the Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center campus.

I want my union with HPAE and I will tell you why.

My job in the lab is intense, stressful. Shifts are often understaffed which may sometimes cause delays in results.

More than anything, I am fighting for a union because I want to be able to do my job safely without getting infected with COVID-19 or any other infectious disease. I don’t want to infect my co-workers or my family. I want to have rights on the job, better working conditions in my workplace and not to have arbitrary decisions forced on me.

Having a union will help me advocate for myself, my family, my co-workers and our patients.
