HPAE Tentative Contract Agreement Protects Patients with Safe Staffing Standards
HPAE Local 5147 members, including Registered Nurses, Professionals, Technical Staff, and Service Workers, have reached a tentative agreement on a three-year union contract with Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus, NJ.
“Healthcare workers continue to leave our hospitals due to unsafe patient assignments, creating a staffing crisis unlike any we’ve seen in recent history,” HPAE President Debbie White, RN, said. “As a Union, HPAE continues to bargain for contracts that address this crisis, even as we push our state legislature for a law that mandates safe staffing ratios in all of New Jersey’s hospitals. Safe staffing improves patient outcomes and satisfaction, increases reimbursement for hospitals and keeps nurses and other healthcare workers from migrating out of our hospitals.”
The newly negotiated contract includes better wages, improved health benefits and sick time, and addresses violence prevention in the workplace. Details of the contract will be released following the ratification of the contract. HPAE Local 5147 members in good standing will vote on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
