Local 5107 Phoenix Staffing Grievance

Yesterday (5/9), your Union officers and reps met with Management to discuss our first Staffing Grievance. We settled the grievance, meaning it will not be sent to Arbitration. Our Settlement includes:

Staffing Numbers:

Floor Weekdays Weekends
1st 5 Nurses 4 Nurses
2nd 3 Nurses 2 Nurses
3rd 2 Nurses 2 Nurses
4th 3 Nurses 3 Nurses

When a schedule is posted with fewer Nurses than required, Management will first make calls to staff that day, then if there are still unfilled shifts, management will offer a “Critical Shift Incentive” of $10.00/Hour for LPNs and $12.00/HR for RNs.

This is a BIG step forward in our fight for safe staffing one year in the making – and was only possible because you stepped up – by filling out Unsafe Staffing Forms, adding your name to the grievance, wearing buttons, and writing grievance statements.

Some Other Updates:

  1. Sign our Union’s petition to Governor Murphy and your Legislators: Pass the NJ Safe Staffing Law: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/pass-the-patient-protection-and-safe-staffing-act/
  2. If you are scheduled to work less than 40 hours in a week and are asked to work past your shift, you are entitled to an additional $100.00. So, If you ever think you’ll need to work late, talk to your supervisor to get approved.
  3. Please remember to be kind to new hires/orientees and be conscientious of what is said around them, especially when it’s a difficult day. Every new hire that decides to stay is another shift you may not have to work short!
