BRMC Members Ratify 3 Year Contract
Local 5091 members at Bergen Regional Medical Center (BRMC) overwhelmingly approved a 3 year contract at membership meetings held last Friday. The contract includes across the board wage and step increases amounting to over 9% during the term of the contract. In addition, we gained improved language on staffing and health and safety protections.

Ten Day Extension for Inspira Contracts
The Local 5131 and 5621 Negotiations Committee had a bargaining session with Inspira on Tuesday which lasted until midnight. While progress was made on some issues, the hospital administration continues to push for major takeaways from its nursing staff. Both sides agreed to extend the contract for 10 days past the May 31st deadline. The next negotiation is scheduled for tomorrow.
Verizon Workers Win Strike Victory
Some 39,000 Verizon workers are back on the job after seven weeks on strike. It is a huge victory for the Communication Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, which represent Verizon employees.

Union Membership Declines While Wealthy Grow Richer
As union membership has fallen over the last few decades, the share of income going to the top 10 percent has steadily increased. Union membership fell to 11.1 percent in 2014, where it remained in 2015. The share of income going to the top 10 percent, meanwhile, hit 47.2 percent in 2014.
