HPAE Web Quiz #15

HPAE was established in 1974 through the efforts of the nursing staff at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, NJ when they organized an independent association at the hospital. The Hospital Professionals and Allied Employees – we’re now called the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE) – was formed after nurses at other hospitals, such as Pascack Valley Hospital and Jersey Shore Medical Center, joined with the Englewood nurses.

In what year did HPAE affiliate with the healthcare division of a national union, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT)? The first ten members (one from each local union) who provide the correct response will each receive a $25 American Express gift card.

Support Legislation to Stop Out of Network Billing – Come to Trenton June 16

What those costs are shouldn’t come as a surprise, but often they do because NJ law does not protect consumers against bills for services they inadvertently receive from an out-of-network provider. The Out-of-Network Consumer Protection, Transparency, Cost Containment and Accountability Act (A1952/S1285) would require doctors and hospitals to give consumers advance notice about which insurance networks they participate in and a good faith estimate of what their care will cost. HPAE is supporting this legislation and urges you to come to Trenton on June 16 to lobby for this legislation.
