Local 5091 Urges Freeholders to Set Strong Standards in Choosing New Hospital Operator

HPAE Local 5091 officers (see photo above) attended a Bergen County Freeholders’ meeting last night to deliver hundreds of signatures on a petition calling on the freeholders to set strong standards in choosing a new operator at their hospital, Bergen Regional Medical Center. Local 5091 President Jeff Peck urged the freeholders not to repeat the mistake that was made 18 years ago when the County selected the current operator, Solomon (Bergen Regional Medical Center LP), to operate the hospital.

Local 5091 Members at BRMC Vote to Join HPAE’s Retiree Medical Program

When the ballots were counted by the American Arbitration Association on Monday, the results were clear: by very strong majorities the members of both the RN and non-nursing bargaining units of Local 5091 at Bergen Regional Medical Center (BRMC) voted to participate in the HPAE Retiree Medical Trust.

“Birth Tourism” Service Offered at Meadowlands Hospital

A company based in the Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center has been advertising online to Russian citizens, encouraging pregnant women to come to the Secaucus facility to give birth — a process that makes the baby automatically eligible for U.S. citizenship and connects the hospital to a growing and relatively unknown international phenomenon known as “birth tourism.”
