HPAE President Ann Twomey was named to the Politicker NJ Health Care Power List 2014 for her work as the “”the pioneering leader of Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE), the state’s largest union representing 12,000 nurses and health care attendants, Twomey continues to be a leading voice for workers at a turbulent time for health care facilities.””
In the same issue of PolitickerNJ, Ann discusses why HPAE plays such an important role in the healthcare system:
“The uniqueness of HPAE as a union is that it represents people who see the changes in health care as they’re happening, and they see the effect on patient care. We believe that you have to bring that advocacy not just to the bedside, but to Trenton and to Washington, D.C.,” Twomey added. “We need to be watchdogs and whistle blowers. We’ll get lost otherwise. And if we get lost, the patients get lost. Literally.”
