Donna Benjamin Honored at Bayonne Medical Center
Donna Benjamin, the recently-deceased, former President of HPAE Local 5185 and a Pediatric nurse for 52 years at Bayonne Medical Center, was honored yesterday at the hospital by co-workers, political leaders, and her union brothers and sisters.

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) has launched a petition condemning the Mylan Corporation for raising the price of EpiPens – used to treat severe allergic reactions – by over 450% since 2007.
Bergen County Opens RFP process for Management of BRMC
Bergen County began its request for proposals for new management of the Bergen Regional Medical Center on Monday. After several delays in starting the process, the county is offering less than two months for submission of proposals, which are due by Oct. 19. HPAE Local 5091 represents RNs and non-nursing professional staff at the hospital.
Christie Vetoes Minimum Wage Hike
Governor Christie vetoed legislation Tuesday that would have gradually raised New Jersey’s minimum wage to $15 an hour, thwarting a Democratic effort being tested around the country.
This Week in U.S. Labor History
Some 10,000 striking miners began a fight at Blair Mountain, W.Va., for recognition of their union, the United Mine Workers of America. Federal troops were sent in and miners were forced to withdraw five days later, after 16 deaths – August 31, 1921
