Local 5106 members have elected the following members as officers for a new term:

Isaac Gary Peoples – Technical Vice President
Richelle Kozak – Secretary/Treasurer
Our State Executive Council (SEC), the main decision making body of our union, is comprised of local officers and the three state officers. Through their participation on the SEC, your local leaders will play a key role in the direction of our entire union, including the development of statewide priorities and the plans to achieve them. As these are unpaid positions, we are also grateful to the many hours that our leaders volunteer.
Local 5106 Participates in Philadelphia Labor Day Parade

Local 5106 members Venus Weaver and Sue Clements joined with thousands of Philadephia-area unionists to celebrate the role of working people and their unions in the annual Philadelphia Labor Day parade.
Important Notice FOR Licensees With a 4/30/15 License Expiration Date

Act 31 of 2014 requires that all RNs, LPNs, CNSs, LDNs and CRNPs complete two hours of Board-approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Continuing Education (Child Abuse CE) in order to renew their licenses. Under this Act, the Board CANNOT renew a license until the Board receives verification from the provider that the licensee has met the Child Abuse CE requirement.
If your license expires April 30, 2015, and you have not yet completed the Child Abuse CE, it is important that you complete the Child Abuse CE requirement now.
Local 5106 Joins with Other HPAE Locals in Lobby Day

Lobby Day was a great success. Over 300 members of HPAE and other healthcare unions in the Coalition for Patients Rights and Safe Staffing (CPRSS) came to Trenton to talk to state legislators about the need for staffing legislation, including nurse to patient staffing ratios, which ensure quality care and patient safety.
HPAE members throughout the state of New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania were enthusiastic and excited to participate in Lobby Day. During the day, we held 23 meetings with state legislators, many of whom pledged their full support for a safe staffing bill.

Our Christmas Outreach

Several years ago one of our members noted that we had never done anything for our community and she was right. So starting that very year we decided to sponsor a gift-giving project for needy families in the community. The first few years we worked with a priest from Visitation Church right across the street from Episcopal. When Father Joe left the parish, we were referred to Casa Del Carmen, a Catholic Social Service agency in North Philadelphia.
The Casa Del Carmen Family Service Center has provided over fifty years of service to the Latino Community. A bilingual, bicultural staff provides social services to the community without regard for race, language, ethnic origin, or the ability to pay. Their services include: Family Support Services, Pregnancy Services, Utility Assistance, Certificate Assistance from the US, Puerto Rica and the Virgin Islands, “Aging in Place” Program, and a day care and afterschool programs. They also offer counseling to the community of North Philadelphia who are in need of mental health services.
This year the agency provided us with the names of sixty-one children in need of a gift this Christmas. Although not everyone participated, the generosity of those that did contribute was heartwarming. We were able to provide beautiful gifts for all of the children, which were delivered on December 16th. The following Monday, December 22nd Casa held a Christmas party with Santa is attendance to distribute gifts. We were able to get a few pictures at the beginning of the party to share with our members and friends.
Many thanks to our Social Workers, Behavioral Health Techs, and our members in CRC, Ultrasound, CT, C4, P5, C6 and Respiratory for their beautiful gifts and monetary contributions. Also a specific thank you to Pat Haynes, RN (CRC) and Charles Bowen, MSW (PM5) for co-ordinating the collection in their areas and to Richelle Kozak and her family who contributed several gifts.
The best gift we could receive was the gratitude of the families and staff from Casa Del Carmen.
In additon to our traditional Christmas project, our members also reached out to help some co-workers in need this Christmas. The ED staff donated to one of our security officer who recently assumed care for three grandchildren.The monetary donations and gifts for the children were incredibly generous and helped make the holiday happier for the family. The staff on C6 adopted the son of one of our patient care techs and provided some beautiful gifts and some financial support.
Local 5106 Joins the Philly Labor Day Parade

Local 5106 members participated once again in the Philadelphia Labor Day parade on Monday, September 1. Local 5106 member Debra Pakstis and her daughter, Peyton, as well as Local 5016 member Venus Weaver (see photo the left), joined public employees, sheet metal workers, teachers, and janitors as they and other union members marched along Columbus Boulevard in the annual celebration of Labor Day.

Members Vote to Ratify Contract Settlement

Local 5106 members in the Technical and RN/Professional units voted by overwhelming margins today in favor of the contract settlement reached with Temple/Episcopal last week. The contract includes wage increases each year of a three year contract and other improvements.

Bargaining Update: Tentative Settlement Reached

Despite Mother Nature’s attempt to derail our negotiations with snowstorms on all but our first and last sessions, we were able to negotiate a new contract before our present contract expires on February 28th. We achieved some significant economic improvements, as well as improved contract language that addresses seniority, new member orientation, requesting time off,
and bidding on positions.

There was no grandstanding or game playing during negotiations, but a professional give and take on how to best serve our members within the hospital’s budget. This was also the first time that the Professionals sat with us at negotiations. It was impressive to realize what a huge contribution our members make toward the success of the Episcopal Campus. It is also important to remember that a gain for one member is a gain for all.
The Negotiating Team will present the tentative agreement for ratification on Tuesday March 4th.

6:30 am, 7:30 am, 9 am, 11 am, 12 Noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm, 6 pm, 6:30 pm, and 7 pm
