HPAE Nurses Speak Out for Safe Staffing
HPAE nurses are speaking out and taking action to keep patients safe and support legislation to make sure every hospital has enough nurses for every patient.
HPAE President Twomey’s Statement on the Passage of the ACHA in the House
After months of protest and outrage, Congress dismissed pleas from their constituents, patients and working families by passing legislation to take away healthcare from millions of Americans by dismantling the Affordable Care Act. This is a tax-cut bill for the wealthy not a health care bill. Cutting taxes for the richest in our society at the expense of the health of children, senior citizens, the disabled and anyone with a pre-existing condition is an abomination and we will continue to fight the legislation as it moves on to the US Senate.
Take Action to Support the NJ Safe Staffing Bill
When New Jersey’s hospitals are under-staffed, New Jersey patients are at greater risk. Unsafe staffing levels require nurses and all healthcare workers to make hard choices about how much time they spend with each patient. That is why we’re urging all HPAE members in New Jersey to write their State Senator and urge him or her to support S.1280, the Nurse Safe Staffing Bill.
Send a letter to your State Senator.

HPAE joined hundreds of people last night in Willingboro, NJ to protest Congressman Tom MacArthur’s role in crafting legislation passed by the House of Representatives that “repeals and replaces” the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Claudia Storicks, a retired HPAE Local 5105 member, described herself as “very angry” at the prospect of the ACA being repealed. “That would mean that my diabetes would get out of control, my foot would probably get worse, and I’d probably end up in hospital and losing my house.”
