Local 5118 Members Ratify Contract with Cooper University Hospital
By a large majority, the members of Local 5118 ratified a new contract on Monday with Cooper University Hospital. During negotiations, Cooper pushed for a series of concessions, but the Negotiations Committee blocked all of them. At the same time, the local made significant gains in wages and staffing language.
Local 5030 Members Vote to Authorize Concerted Activity Notice to HMH
Rejecting HMH’s current proposals, Local 5030 members at Palisades Medical Center sent a strong signal to Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) that they’re determined to achieve a good contract. The members voted last Friday to give the Negotiations Committee the authorization to send management a notice for concerted activity, if necessary.
Labor Notes Article Features Illegally-Locked Out Sunrise House Workers
Labor Notes, an organization dedicated to building a strong, democratic labor movement, has featured the struggle of Local 5629 members to achieve their first contract in an online article: “One hundred ten addiction treatment beds are empty, and 120 employees without a paycheck, after for-profit American Addiction Centers locked workers out of its Lafayette, New Jersey, facility….Members of the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE), affiliated with the AFT, were set to strike at Sunrise House on May 24 over unfair labor practices. They say the employer has been bargaining in bad faith for the past nine months, as workers push for a first contract.”
Retiree Medical Trust Participants Now Have Online Access to Their Contribution History
HPAE members who participate in the Retiree Medical Trust now have online access to their work history, contributions, and annual participant statement. Participants can also update their contact information so the fund office has the correct address, phone number, etc. for you. HPAE’s Jean Pierce Honored by the Essex-West Hudson Labor Council
Jean Pierce, HPAE Public Policy staff member, was honored by the Essex-West Hudson Labor Council last Sunday morning at an annual breakfast event hosted by the labor council. Jean received the honor for her contributions to promoting a strong labor movement and a progressive political agenda in the state as an HPAE staff person.
