On July 26, 2017, Alex Wubbels, RN, was arrested after refusing to give a police officer in Utah vials of blood from a patient who had been involved in a vehicular accident. The police officer claimed that he needed the blood for an investigation, but Wubbels – supported by her supervisor at the hospital – refused to provide the blood since the police officer did not have a warrant or meet any of the mandatory criteria needed for taking blood.
