HPAE Nurses at Wanaque Center Support 1199 SEIU Workers in Contract Fight
1199 SEIU, the union representing CNAs, housekeeping staff, and dietary staff at the Wanaque Center, conducted informational picketing in front of the facility today to protest the lack of progress in contract negotiations. Since new owners took over the nursing home in June 2014, negotiations have been stalemated. 1199 SEIU representatives point to a pattern of delays and bad faith bargaining on the part of the owners as the cause of the stalled negotiations. In the video below, an 1199 SEIU member explains why they needed to do informational picketing today:
While HPAE Local 5107, which represents nurses at Wanaque, did negotiate a contract with the new owners in May 2014, local leaders and members are strongly supporting their sisters and brothers in 1199 SEIU. Nurses wore purple ribbons today (purple is SEIU’s color) and have signed a petition, demanding that the owners negotiate in good faith.
