President Twomey’s Statement on the Election Results
As New Jersey’s largest healthcare union, we look forward to working with Governor-Elect Murphy to bring transparency and accountability to government, while improving access to healthcare and ensuring patients’ and workers’ standards of safety.
The November 7 election was a strong and decisive victory – not only in New Jersey – but also in Virginia and New York.
After eight years under the Christie administration our state Government has lowered standards rather than making the improvements needed to ensure that New Jerseyans have safe, quality services and treatment. This has applied to every institution where HPAE members work.
We look forward to working with the New Jersey departments responsible for oversight of patient care, and wages and working conditions of HPAE members. No longer will the important work HPAE members do every day be disrespected and attacked as they have been these last eight years.
We want to recognize and thank every member who has actively participated in our efforts to resist the mean-spirited, ethically challenged agenda that Governor Christie waged at the state level. The fight must continue to prevent this same misguided and dangerous agenda from prevailing on the national level.
Congratulations to Governor-Elect Phil Murphy, Lieutenant Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver and every victorious NJ Senator and Assemblyperson who was endorsed by HPAE.
Especially, thank you – HPAE members – for working hard to make this a successful election year.
