HPAE to hold a Safe Staffing, Saves LIVES Town Hall
Unionized nurses, healthcare workers and healthcare advocates from across the state will join HPAE at a Safe Staffing Town Hall in Cherry Hill at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Unionized healthcare workers, legislators and advocates will discuss efforts to negotiate safe staffing in union contracts and pass the “Patient Protection and Safe Staffing Act,” (S.2700/A.3683) into a law mandating safe patient-to-staff ratios in New Jersey hospitals.

Nurses and healthcare workers currently in negotiations will share experiences of how understaffing is causing the healthcare workforce to leave their profession in record numbers. Policymakers and advocates will talk about the urgency of passing the Patient Protection and Safe Staffing Act (S2700 and A3683), sponsored by Senator Vitale and Assemblywoman Quijano, includes staffing ratios for nursing and non-licensed assistive personnel, with ratios set based on the needs of specific medical units.
