Local 5105 Bargaining Update #4
Yesterday (5/5) was our 4th day of bargaining! Management presented a short presentation on Artificial Intelligence that only reinforced our concerns regarding having a voice in this fast and furious new technology. We presented our counterproposal on Health and Safety and made some progress. We had some other discussion on peripheral issues, but we remain very far apart on our core issues of safe staffing and HET. We still have not received managements proposals on economics.
However, it is clear based on the tone at the table that the actions we are doing are having a huge impact at the table. Management is realizing that we are ready to do what it takes to achieve our priorities in this contract, and we need to continue to build the pressure in the weeks ahead. Here are the next two major actions coming up:
- We will be holding Strike Vote General Membership Meetings on Thursday, May 14th at 8:00am and 8:00pm at the Moose Lodge (853 Woodlane Rd, Mt Holly, NJ 08060) and on Zoom at 4:30pm, followed by electronic online voting on the 14th 15th and 16th. This vote will be a vote to authorize the bargaining committee to call for a strike by giving the mandatory ten day notice. This strike authorization vote gives our committee even more leverage at the table because the employer knows we have the authority from our members to give the 10 day notice at any time. We need EVERY MEMBER to come out to vote to show the employer that all our members are behind us!!
- Then on Monday, May 18th, we will be asking you all to pack the room for our Safe Staffing Town Hall at the Aloft Hotel at (558 Fellowship Rd, Mt Laurel Township, NJ 08054) at 6:00pm. We will be hosting elected officials and community members as well as the press to demand that Virtua give patients the care they deserve.
Let’s keep collectively building up the momentum as we fight for enforceable nurse to patient ratios, highly competitive pay and benefits and a safe workplace for us and our patients.
In solidarity,
Your Local 5105 Bargaining Committee
