Llanfair House Negotiations Update, May 12

The bargaining committee met with management today to continue negotiations regarding wages, holidays, per diem requirements, weekend differentials, health insurance, and other contract
language issues.

Management presented revised wage scale proposals for both RNs and LPNs. The committee spent significant time reviewing the structure of the proposals and raising concerns regarding wage
compression and the amount of time employees would have to wait to reach higher pay tiers under management’s current structure. The committee continues to advocate for stronger wage progression and retention incentives for experienced staff.

Discussions also continued regarding across-the-board increases. While movement has occurred on both sides, there remains a gap between the parties regarding overall economic improvements and long-term compensation.

Holiday benefits remain a major issue in bargaining. The committee made clear that preserving meaningful holiday compensation and protecting current employees’ benefits remain priorities. Discussions are ongoing regarding grandfathering existing employees while addressing benefit structures for future hires.

Additional topics discussed included:

  • Per diem shift requirements- management wants 4 shifts per pay period
  • Weekend premium pay
  • Health insurance opt-out compensation
  • Proposed no-frills benefit option
  • Grandfathering language for current employees

Management has committed to providing updated proposals in writing. Once received, the committee will meet to review the proposals and prepare counter-proposals prior to the next bargaining session scheduled for June 4.

The committee remains focused on securing fair wages, protecting benefits, addressing retention concerns, and negotiating a contract that supports all bargaining unit members.
