HPAE 5089 Rutgers Bargaining Update – General Membership Meetings Today (7/23)

We just finished our 10th session with management. We were hoping that management would come to the table with responses to the economic proposals we put forward in May. Management did not have any responses, and they did not provide a date for when they will.

We are frustrated with the pace of negotiations. We are about a month past contract expiration and management continue to use delay tactics.

There were two small wins yesterday – we won the right to have union reps take paid union days to attend conferences, conventions, and trainings. This is a win for our union – it will help us grow our union and better represent members. There are still some vacant rep positions, if you are interested, please reach out to Bennett Nagurka at [email protected].

We also won language that requires Rutgers to provide funding source information for each position. This information is critical in helping us fight layoffs.

While this is some progress, it is not enough. Not getting a raise in July hurts. Continued understaffing hurts. We know that there is a long way to go and we need you to help us win a contract.

Right now, we are asking our members to attend a general membership meeting.
