Healthcare Professionals at HRH Secaucus University Hospital Vote to Join HPAE in NLRB Election

Healthcare professionals at Secaucus University Hospital, owned by Hudson Regional Health (HRH), have voted unanimously to join New Jersey’s largest healthcare union, the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE).

The professionals—social workers, pharmacists, physical therapists, dietitians, and speech language pathologists—participated in daylong voting on Thursday. The workers will become members of HPAE Local 5147, which currently includes Registered Nurses, Technical Staff, and Service Workers.

HPAE President Debbie White, RN, said these workers know by joining a union they can improve working conditions and achieve fair, competitive wages. White praised the workers for standing together to achieve this victory.

“These workers have worked at a hospital where the majority of their colleagues are members of HPAE Local 5147. They have seen the power and solidarity that belonging to a union gives workers,” White said, “and we are proud to welcome these healthcare professionals into our union!”

Along with the Secaucus University Hospital, HRH also operates Bayonne University Hospital (formerly Bayonne Medical Center), Hoboken University Hospital (formerly Hoboken University Medical Center), and The Heights University Hospital in Jersey City (formerly Christ Hospital). Last year, HRH abruptly, and illegally, shut down Christ Hospital.
