Legislation to require disclosure of financial difficulties by for-profit hospitals was triggered by events in Hudson County
After a decade of uncertain business practices of for-profit hospitals in NJ, we applaud the Governor for signing legislation to require stricter financial disclosures and greater accountability when those companies put the financial health of the hospital at risk.
HPAE Local 5030 RNs on 3E, 4th,5th floors and ICU voted 74% to 26% on a MOA implementing 12 hours shifts on these units.
Our local Bargaining Committee has continued to meet with the hospital to discuss our proposals, and are expecting to get management proposals next week.

On Monday, January 6, 2020, the HPAE Local 5094 Negotiation Committee was able to reach a tentative agreement with University Hospital for a new contract with significant gains after bargaining for over a year.

Financial pressures and an increasingly competitive market are driving the consolidation of hospitals in New Jersey. While traditional hospital mergers and acquisitions will continue, an uptick in non-traditional alliances will also occur in 2020.
