$12M Bid to Buy Secaucus Hospital
Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center, a struggling for-profit facility in Secaucus, has been approached by a buyer offering $12.2 million for the hospital, according to state records. HPAE Local 5147 represents RNs, non-nursing professional staff, techs, and service workers at the hospital.

Forum to Highlight the “Tangled Web” of the Insurance Industry
HPAE and New Jersey Hedge Clippers are sponsoring a forum on September 22 to highlight the problems that for-profit insurance companies bring to an industry which is meant to provide a safety net for families in crisis. Noted author Les Leopold will also lead a discussion based on his book, “Runaway Inequality,” about how the “rules” of our economic system are designed to stack the deck against working families. Together we will discuss what we need to do to fight the debt trap and Wall Street’s drive for profits.

Local 5106 Member to Speak At Temple U. Forum on the “Fight for $15”
Local 5106 Vice President Charles Bowen, Psychiatric Social Worker at Temple-Episcopal Hospital, will be speaking on a panel at the “#15Now Forum,” which will be held at Temple University on Saturday. Labor unions and students are coming together to support security guard workers represented by SEIU Local 32BJ who are fighting for $15/hour wage rate in contract negotiations. Other unions are gearing up for contract fights at Temple University and Temple University Hospital, including Local 5106, whose contract expires February 28, 2017.
