Meadowlands Hospital Workers Win Major Arbitration Victory
Arbitrator Michael Pecklers ruled that Meadowlands Hospital violated the contract and the law by failing to annually advance Local 5147 nurses and techs on the wage step scale as required by the contract. The arbitrator awarded the approximately 110 RN & Tech members in the local with a five-year jump in experience credit on the wage scale, and backpay (with interest compounded daily) representing the experience credit for which they were not paid from June 28, 2014, to the present.
Petitions Opposing Price Nomination Delivered to Senate Committee
On Tuesday, HPAE Vice President Bernie Gerard joined with progressive allies to deliver more than 500,000 petitions to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) urging legislators to oppose Rep. Tom Price’s nomination as secretary of health and human services.
Women’s March on Washington, Other Cities Set for Saturday
Donald Trump will become President of the United States tomorrow. On Saturday, HPAE members and staff will join the hundreds of thousands of people who will take part in the Women’s March on Washington, as well as “sister” marches in Trenton, Philadelphia, New York and other cities, to support inclusion, democratic rights for all Americans, and social justice.
Deal Extended for Manager of BRMC
Bergen County officials signed on for another six months with the company that manages Bergen Regional Medical Center while they weigh several bids to take over operations and craft a long-term contract for the Paramus facility. The 19-year agreement between the Bergen County Improvement Authority and the for-profit Bergen Regional Medical Center LP was set to expire in mid-March. HPAE Local 5091 represents a total of 500 RNs and professional staff at the hospital.
Red Cross Members Ratify “Redline” Agreement
Last Sunday, members of Local 5103 at the American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Region overwhelmingly ratified the Redline Agreement, along with an agreement on the Charge and Double Red Premium! This is a big win for the local.
