Cooper RNs Demand Staffing Improvements at First Bargaining Session

The Local 5118 Negotiations Committee met with Cooper University Hospital representatives today in their first bargaining session for a successor contract. While the Committee is presenting a number of contract proposals, the local’s focus is on improving staffing at the hospital. The current contract expires May 31, 2017.

HPAE President Ann Twomey Honored at Bergen County Women’s History Celebration

HPAE President Ann Twomey was one of 19 Bergen County women who were honored on Monday when Bergen County hosted its annual Women’s History Month Celebration. Ann received the commendation from Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco.

Push to Repeal ACA Fails

House Republican leaders, facing a revolt among conservatives and moderates in their ranks, pulled legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) from consideration on the House floor last Friday in a major defeat for President Trump on the first legislative showdown of his presidency.

HPAE Endorses Murphy for Governor

At a press conference held last week, HPAE President Ann Twomey announced that our union is endorsing Phil Murphy for Governor of New Jersey. President Twomey said that “We need a governor who will fight for affordable care here in New Jersey. And we need a governor who respects both working families and the professionals who look out for their health. Phil Murphy will be that governor, and HPAE’s 13,000 members are proud to stand with him.”

Judge Enforces Arbitrator’s Order to Reinstate Terminated Employee

Federal Judge Michael Shipp (photo above) supported HPAE’s position and ruled that an arbitrator’s decision to reinstate a terminated employee at Jersey Shore University Medical Center was valid and based on ample evidence. The judge ordered Hackensack Meridian Health to comply with the arbitrator’s order.
