HPAE Locals at UH Kick Off Contract Campaign with Unity Rally and Picket
Members of HPAE Locals 5089 (RNs) and 5094 (non-nursing professional staff) at University Hospital (UH) in Newark held a lunchtime rally and picket Tuesday as a show of unity between the locals and to kick off their contract campaign.
Vote for Pro-Labor and Pro-Healthcare Candidates
Next Tuesday, voters in New Jersey will go to the polls to elect the next Governor, Lieutenant Governor, NJ State Senators and Assembly persons. In Philadelphia, voters will head to the ballot box to vote on municipal and judicial candidates. We urge all HPAE members to exercise their democratic right and vote in Tuesday’s election.

HPAE Raises Concerns Over HMH – JFK Hospital Merger
On Monday, a dozen HPAE members and staff attended a public hearing on the affiliation of JFK Medical Center with Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH). If the merger goes through, HMH will own 15 hospitals in the state of New Jersey. HPAE raised some specific concerns about the merger at the hearing.
Local 5030 and 5629 Officers Attend AFT Collective Bargaining Conference
Union officers from HPAE Local 5030/Palisades Medical Center and Local 5629/Sunrise House attended the 2017 AFT Collective Bargaining Conference, which was held in Chicago on October 27 and 28. The conference addressed a number of key issues facing HPAE locals, including Strategic Negotiations Activity, Member Centered Bargaining, Community Relationships in Bargaining, and Contract Campaigns.
