HPAE Calls on Cumberland County Freeholders to Save Our Healthcare
Last night, Inspira RN and Local 5131 Rep Karen Johnson presented a resolution to the Cumberland County Freeholder Board to urge Congress and the President not to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without having an adequate replacement for the law at the same time.
“As a Registered Nurse on the front lines of care, every day I witness how important it is for our patients and community members to have access to affordable, quality healthcare,” Karen shared. New Jersey Policy Perspective, a public interest group, has estimated that if the Medicaid expansion provision of the law is repealed, in Cumberland County alone 13,000 adults would lose Medicaid; 4,700 of those adults have children.
Another union, Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 1085, supported the resolution, too. Local 1085 Vice President Beth Conrey pointed out the need to protect healthcare benefits of the residents in Cumberland County, New Jersey, and across the country. She shared her experience as a case worker, noting that she was able to help thousands of Cumberland County residents obtain health coverage through the ACA.
HPAE members will continue to work with other unions and community groups state-wide to pass resolutions protecting the ACA in all counties across New Jersey.
