HPAE 5094 members vote to approve new Rutgers contract
On Friday, June 12th, after three days of voting, the members of HPAE Local 5094 voted by an overwhelming majority to ratify our new contract with Rutgers University.
This is the first contract we’ve negotiated with the University since the merger with UMDNJ in 2013. It represents an important achievement in recognizing the value that “Legacy” UMDNJ professionals have brought to Rutgers since the reorganization.
Our goal was to achieve a contract that provided job security, parity with other Rutgers employees, and stable raises that will help us retain our dedicated staff and that goal was achieved.
We are looking forward to implementing the terms of the new agreement. We’ll share more details next week. In the meantime, click here to review the summary of the agreement and to read the signed MOA.
This is your contract. It was made possible by your participation, activism, and support for the union. In the last two weeks alone, hundreds of members from every campus participated in membership meetings, our tele-town hall, and our contract ratification vote.
Now that our negotiations are completed, we must continue to build on that momentum to enforce our new contract and organize against further political attacks on our rights so that gains we’ve made at the bargaining table won’t be lost in Trenton.
Let’s not forget the 600 HPAE nurses at Rutgers and those staff and faculty unions that are still in negotiations. They are without a contract and in need of our solidarity. We won’t be entirely satisfied until all of our Rutgers co-workers gain a fair contract.
I am proud of what we have accomplished working together and I know that united, we can continue to achieve far more.
In solidarity,
Tom Murphy
Co-President
