Local 5185 Negotiations Update, May 29, 2024

Yesterday (5/30), your Union Bargaining Team met with Management.

We delivered our petition demanding better pay, benefits, and staffing. Management was visibly surprised to see so many people standing together demanding better!

We made a proposal including things we ALL would need in exchange for the one-year contract extension Management requested.

Management rejected the majority of our demands and told us “you should be happy we’re not proposing wage cuts or benefit givebacks.”

However, Management did agree to freeze Health, Dental, and Vision payments at current levels.

Our next Bargaining Meeting Is June 5th.

We all need to keep putting pressure on Management to get the best deal possible, so keep wearing your HPAE Lanyards and Badge Holders, and use this link to send a message to Governor Murphy and your State Legislators – Pass the NJ Safe Staffing Bill: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/pass-the-patient-protection-and-safe-staffing-act/

This month, HPAE members submitted resolutions to the Hudson County Commissioners and the Jersey City and North Bergen Councils to support HPAE Members in bargaining this year and the NJ Safe Staffing Law. All three passed unanimously! This puts strong political pressure on CarePoint and the State. Support for safe staffing for ALL healthcare workers is growing!
