HPAE met with management for our third bargaining session. We were able to reach an agreement which clarifies when a member is required to attend court appearances on behalf of hospital related issues.

Notice of 2021 Nominations and Election of HPAE Local 5089 Officers
The Nominations/Election Committee announces that there are eleven (11) local officer positions that are up for election this year as well as Representative positions.
HPAE Local 5089 & Local 5094 Membership Update and Survey
The University approached HPAE locals 5089 and 5094, and other Rutgers unions, with a proposal for a 2-year contract extension that includes a nominal wage increase.
Staffing Issues at UH
In an effort to combat the staffing challenges, the Hospital has contracted agency nurses as well as are relying more on members working extra shifts to fill in the gaps.

Local 5089 HPAE Convention Delegate Announcement
The Nominations/Election Committee announces that the following members will serve as delegates for HPAE Local 5089 at this year’s HPAE State Convention.
Negotiations begin
The HPAE Negotiation Committee held their first meeting with University Hospital on August 24th in an effort to negotiate a successor agreement.

HPAE will present a list of contract issues that will be presented to UH in our upcoming negotiations of the Agreement which is scheduled to expire on 9/30/21.
August 2nd Deadline for Covid Vaccine Mandate is Fast Approaching
HPAE would like to remind everyone that the deadline to either initiate vaccination, provide proof of vaccination for Covid or be granted a medical or religious accommodation is Monday, August 2nd.
Mandatory Vaccine Update, July 30, 2021
The Coalition of Rutgers Unions (CRU) has met with Rutgers (RU) this week to negotiate over the impact of the mandatory vaccination policy. We will continue to negotiate on Monday. The CRU asked many questions, some of which RU clarified.

Important COVID Vaccine Mandate Update
While HPAE continues to bargain with the Hospital regarding the impact of this mandate on our membership, it is imperative that our members either schedule their vaccination appointment or apply for either a religious or medical exemption.
