HPAE United at Rutgers Negotiations Update

All three locals have now had their first negotiations session with management. Each of these sessions were quite similar: we highlighted the pillars of our negotiations for management (improving our local contracts, working in coalition with the other Unions at Rutgers to achieve equity and improve benefits & bargaining for the common good) and presented an initial package of proposals. Management did not respond to these, nor did they have proposals of their own. We did, however, get additional bargaining dates for each local – so that we now have four dates on the calendar coming up.

The Union Coalition also held a rally outside of the Board of Governors on April 10^th. About 350 workers and students attended. Justin O’Hea (local 5094 COPE chair) co-mc’d the event for the Coalition. Inside the meeting several HPAE members (Tom Murphy, Claude Monken and Justin O’Hea) spoke out regarding our concerns over the Barnabas partnership and the uncertainty of our future at Rutgers. Click here for the news story.
