Update on Layoffs at UBHC, August 10, 2020
Since July 23, HPAE has been working with our UBHC membership regarding layoff notices issued by Rutgers University. These layoff notices are to take effect on August 22nd, leaving our hardworking healthcare co-workers without a full time job, health insurance,
Local 5138 officer nominations are now open
The Nominations/Election Committee announces that there are four (4) Local 5138 officer positions that are up for election this year. Nominations for these positions are currently being accepted by the nomination committee.
Negotiations for Rutgers Reopening
Rutgers has released their “Return to Rutgers” and “Return to Research” plans, and has begun to direct a limited return to on-site staffing, including employees in research, libraries, some contracted office locations at UCHC and the Child Health Unit, and
UBHC layoffs!
On July 23, HPAE was notified by members of our Union of the University’s intent to begin layoffs for UBHC “as the result of the unprecedented COVID-19 public health crisis which has resulted in a fiscal crisis emergency.” As
Contract Ratified!!!
Today, our Union ratified a collective bargaining agreement with the hospital. This could not happen without the solidarity of all the nurses that stood behind us during this fight.
Salem Medical Center RNs reach tentative Agreement on a contract with employer
HPAE Local 5142 members, who have been negotiating with Community Healthcare Associates, LLC, and its owner Bill Colgan, since December 2019, will vote over the next few days over whether to accept the terms their committee negotiated with the employer.
Voting Process for Local 5142 Contract Ratification
AAA, American Arbitration Association will be conducting Local 5142 Contract Ratification vote. The emailing of voting instructions and Personal Identification Numbers (“PINs”) will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 5:00 A.M.

Tentative Agreement Reached!

Jersey Shore nurses agree on tentative contract terms with Hackensack Meridian Health System
Jersey Shore University Medical Center unionized Nurses reached a tentative agreement on Tuesday. Notable improvements include an improved presence in nurse involvement for pandemic planning and response and increases in wages.
